Greek, Minor

This is the first version of the 2026–27 General Catalog. Please check back regularly for changes. The final edition and the historical PDF will be published during the fall semester.
The undergraduate minor in Greek requires a minimum of 15 s.h. in Greek courses (prefix CLSG), including at least 12 s.h. in courses numbered 2000 and above taken at the University of Iowa. Students must maintain a grade-point average of at least 2.00 in all courses for the minor and in all UI courses for the minor. Coursework in the minor may not be taken pass/nonpass. CLAS minors may only be earned concurrent with or subsequent to earning a University of Iowa bachelor's degree. They cannot be granted as standalone credentials or as the sole program of study completed at the University of Iowa.
A maximum of 6 s.h. of work for another University of Iowa major, minor, or certificate and up to 3 s.h. of lower-level transfer credit may be counted toward the minor.
Students who earn a minor in Greek may not earn the minor in classical languages; students who are interested in a minor in Latin at the same time as the minor in Greek should consider the minor in classical languages instead.
The sequence CLSG:2001 Intermediate Greek I and CLSG:2002 Intermediate Greek II and ancient civilizations (prefix CLSA), Greek (prefix CLSG), and Latin (prefix CLSL) courses numbered 3000 or above are considered advanced for the minor. Students may substitute a maximum of 3 s.h. for the CLSG requirement with one of the relevant courses numbered 3000 or above taught in English from the following.
