Aging and Longevity Studies, Minor

The undergraduate minor in aging and longevity studies requires a minimum of 15 s.h. in aging-related coursework, including at least 6 s.h. in courses numbered 3000 or above taken at the University of Iowa. Students must maintain a grade-point average of at least 2.00 in all courses for the minor. Coursework in the minor may not be taken pass/nonpass. CLAS minors may only be earned concurrent with or subsequent to earning a University of Iowa bachelor's degree. They cannot be granted as standalone credentials or as the sole program of study completed at the University of Iowa. 

Courses for the minor must be approved by the Aging and Longevity Studies Program if they are not aging and longevity studies courses (prefix ASP) or are not cross-referenced with aging and longevity studies courses. 

The minor in aging and longevity studies requires the following coursework.

Students complete the remaining 12 s.h. in aging and longevity studies courses (prefix ASP) numbered 1000–4999, excluding ASP:4190. Cross references of these courses may also be counted.

Nursing students may also complete an independent study related to gerontology such as NURS:5800 Independent Study. They may register for 1, 2, or 3 s.h. with approval from a supervising faculty member in the College of Nursing.
