The undergraduate minor in dance requires a minimum of 15 s.h. in University of Iowa Department of Dance courses. Students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 2.00 in all courses for the minor and in all UI courses for the minor. Coursework in the minor may not be taken pass/nonpass.
Adding a Dance Minor
The department admits all students to the dance minor without an audition. A placement audition is required to participate in ballet and contemporary movement practices courses numbered 2000 and above, however. Ballet and contemporary movement practices courses are not required to complete the minor.
Students may email a video, attend a Hawkeye Dance Day in the department, or arrange to visit a class to audition for placement in courses numbered 2000 and above. For incoming first-year students, a short, supplemental application is required to make audition arrangements and will become available to students after they have been admitted to the University of Iowa. Students who have already matriculated at the University of Iowa may declare the minor without completing the supplemental application.
