Latin American Studies, Minor

This is the first version of the 2025–26 General Catalog. Please check back regularly for changes. The final edition and the historical PDF will be published during the fall semester.

The undergraduate minor in Latin American studies requires a minimum of 15 s.h. in Latin American studies (prefix LAS) approved courses including at least 12 s.h. of credit earned at the University of Iowa. Students must maintain a grade-point average of at least 2.00 in all courses for the minor and in all UI courses for the minor. Coursework in the minor may not be taken pass/nonpass.

Students may count a total of 6 s.h. earned for majors, certificates, and other minors toward the Latin American studies minor. Because the minor is interdisciplinary, it may include a maximum of 6 s.h. of credit from any single department or program. Students earning the minor in Latin American studies may not earn the Certificate in Latin American Studies.

Students are strongly encouraged to take either or both of these courses for the minor.
