General Education Requirements
Undergraduate general education requirements vary based on the college. This table is intended to be used for comparative purposes between colleges. Some colleges and some programs of study do not have undergraduate general education requirements; others have general education requirements specific to an individual program of study, like those in Carver College of Medicine. Check each program of study's page in the catalog for program-specific requirements. University College general education requirements are detailed following the table. World language graduation requirements by college can be found following this table.

University College Online Degrees
University College offers two online bachelor's degrees, the Bachelor of Applied Studies and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies, that provide opportunities for students who have already received an associate's degree, or who have prior college credit, to earn a four-year degree online.
- The Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) requires the following core requirements for the general education coursework.
- Rhetoric; quantitative or formal reasoning; social sciences; values and society; and business management.
- The Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) requires the following core requirements for the general education coursework.
- Rhetoric; interpreting literature; natural sciences; international and global issues; values and society; statistics/quantitative or formal reasoning; information literacy; critical thinking; and leadership and career development.
World Languages
College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences have three options to meet the World Language requirement.
- Complete the fourth level of a single world language.
- Complete the third level of a single world language + a 3 s.h. approved World Language and Cultural Exploration course.
- Complete the second level of two different world languages.
College of Public Health
Students in the College of Public Health have three options to meet the World Language requirement.
- Complete the fourth level of a single world language.
- Complete the second level of two different world languages.
- Complete the second level of a single world language + a 3 s.h. course from one of the following categories: Values and Society, Understanding Cultural Perspectives, International and Global Issues, or World Language and Cultural Exploration.
Tippie College of Business
Students in the Tippie College of Business have three options to meet the World Language requirement.
- Complete the fourth level of a single world language.
- Complete the second level of two different world languages.
- Complete the third level of a single world language + a 3 s.h. approved World Language and Cultural Exploration course.
College of Education
Students in the College of Education have three options to meet the World Language requirement.
- Complete the fourth level of a single world language.
- Complete the third level of a single world language + a 3 s.h. approved World Language and Cultural Exploration course.
- Complete the second level of two different world languages.
College of Nursing
Students in the College of Nursing prelicensure BSN program of study have three options to meet the World Language requirement.
- Complete the fourth level of a single world language.
- Complete the second level of two different world languages.
- Complete the second level of a single world language + a 3 s.h. course from one of the following categories: Values and Society, Understanding Cultural Perspectives, International and Global Issues, or World Language and Cultural Exploration.
College of Engineering
Students in the College of Engineering must complete the second level of a world language to be considered for admission to the college.
University College
Students in University College do not have a World Language general education requirement.
