Psychology, Minor

This is the first version of the 2024–25 General Catalog. Please check back regularly for changes. The final edition and the historical PDF will be published during the fall semester.

The undergraduate minor in psychology requires a minimum of 15 s.h. of psychology courses (prefix PSY), including 12 s.h. taken at the University of Iowa. Students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.00 in all courses for the minor and all UI courses for the minor. Coursework in the minor may not be taken pass/nonpass or satisfactory/fail. Before registering for a psychology course, students must complete the course's prerequisites. No credit from practicum coursework can be applied to the minor. Only one course can be "double counted" for the psychology minor and neuroscience major (i.e., neuroscience majors must complete four psychology classes not included as part of their neuroscience BS).

A minor in psychology complements majors in a variety of disciplines. Department advisors can help students identify courses for the minor that are especially appropriate for their major.
